Down at the Lagoon Day Spa villas hug the lagoon and a curving bridge links to the main part of the Casino. The pool looks cool and inviting and I can’t wait for a dip.
I float in the translucent turquoise waters and lie back and gaze at the cloudless blue sky. There is no sound and no breeze. The only movement is the gentle ripple of my hands trying to stay afloat. Outside the air is heavy and hot, it’s a record breaking January day.
Eventually the beach is just too tempting. The soft sand, just like flour, oozes through my toes. The lounger is shady with a view; black cockatoos cackle in the nearby tree; my book, ‘The Happiest Refugee‘ is inspiring. I’m chilling out and already feel pampered and decadent.
I’ve booked a ‘Wet season special’ at the Lagoon Day Spa and with a minimum of a 90 minute treatment I get free access to the beach and the lagoon. We spend a total of 6 hours in and around the Spa (not bad for the price of a treatment) including a casual lunch at Il Piatto overlooking the beach, the sea and the gently swaying palms.
This really is a treat, now I’m planning the next massage, or shall my husband and I book a room for Valentine’s Day?
