The Boatshed at Cullen Bay is a favourite local haunt especially on a busy and atmosphere filled Saturday morning. The speciality ‘pan’ breakfast is as it sounds – the works served up in a frying pan. Or for something lighter, try the big chunks of fresh fruit salad or the honey smeared muesli with yoghurt. Sit out on the boardwalk, sip a coffee and read the weekend paper. Listen to the clanging of the rigging, watch the yachts gently roll in the breeze.
Christo is the main barista at the Boatshed and he makes the best coffee in Darwin. I’m not privileged to his secrets but I do know that my piccolo latte is small, thick and creamy with a very creative piece of art drawn into the frothy top. News of his coffee art is spreading. In 2013 he went to Sydney to compete in the Latte Art Championship. He came second, which is a fantastic achievement and I am very proud of him. He also has his own coffee stall at Rapid Creek Markets (Sunday mornings).
